I currently have 648 bookmarks in Delicious and find it extremely useful. In particular, it quickly allows me to make an interesting bookmark immediately available (or recallable) on any of the various computers I work on during the day (and night).
Now, you can do bulk editing of tags. Read about it here.

I have approximately the same number of bookmarks having imported from all my browsers, but I am still spending a lot of time finding anything because they are not “bundled or “clouded.” I don’t have the time to tag them individually, and I don’t know how the bulk editing works. I searched Delicious, but couldn’t find a how-to. Since you seem to be having some success, could you suggest a link where I could go to get help. Or, could you tell me in a few sentences how to bulk edit? Thanks for your time.

Sorry I didn’t reply earlier to your post but i’ve been doing an awful lot of traveling and just haven’t had the time (or, indeed, the internet connection) to do much blogging recently.
However, your problem in not being able to locate quickly and easily your bookmarks seems to have little to do with bulk editing of tags, but the fact that you say “I don’t have the time to tag them individually”.
It shouldn’t take more than 20-30 seconds to tag each and every bookmark as you post it to delicious.
This is an essential part of the delicious experience. Leave it out at your peril.
