Well, after getting back to using my EeePC 901, I decided to install the newly-released Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) using the iso and Unetbootin.
The install seemed to go fine (I didn’t reformat the /home from th previous 8.04). However, when I tried to boot it I kept getting an Error 13 (Invalid or unsupported executable format). I couldn’t figure out what the problem was so I just re-installed Hardy (8.04.1) using the same method and this went fine.
Right now, I’m trying to upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 and then to 9.04. Not sure if this’ll work any better but it’s worth a try.
In any event, if ever I get Jaunty running on the EeePC, here’s a nice set of downloadable apps to include with the upgrade. I’m particularly excited that the list includes Yakuake as this is one app I just cannot do without. Indeed, what put me off upgrading to Ibex (8.10) was simply that I couldn’t get Yakuake to open by hitting F12. I could get it to open by going to Applications>System Tools>Yakuake or by putting a Yakuake icon in the AWN launcher. However, both of these were just a little cumbersome so I refused to upgrade to Ibex.
