I’ve converted many .avi movies to .m4v format so that I could run them on either my iPod Touch or, lately, on my iPad. A long time ago I used to use DVDVideoSoft Free Studio but lately I’ve been using the excellent AirVideo Free.
The latter is very quick and can convert a 700 MB movie in 20-25 minutes. However, for reasons I don’t fully understand, connecting to the AirVideo server from either my iPad or my iPod Touch can be difficult at times. I really don’t understand what the problem is here but I almost invariably have this problem.
Now I’ve found Evom which does the same conversion, and an awful lot more, on the Mac. However, conversion rates are slow and it took me 75 minutes to convert a 700 MB .avi to .m4v format yesterday.
Nevertheless, Evom doesn’t have any servers to connect to so that annoyance is ruled out.
